Due to inappropriate banner hanging, side of a column capital in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Padua had cracked and fallen to the floor below. There were 50 pieces and reconstruction seemed impossible. As replication would be expensive, Blackburn opted to attempt reconstruction of the original broken sections. Rather like a three dimensional gig saw puzzle, we picked away at it first finding what fit where and then attaching it. As the sections became larger, considerable bracing was necessary in order to replicate the contour of the original. When complete, the capital was returned to the church and carefully lifted and secured into position.
